Phil Ware Fundraiser Jazz Gala

Sunday 3rd April 2022
Andersons Grill & Bar - Sligo
1:00pm | €10

Tickets available at the door.

On Sunday the 3rd of April from 1-3pm in Andersons bar and grill, some of Sligo's amazing talents come together in help someone very close to their hearts, Phil Ware.

Phil Ware is one of the Irish jazz’s most celebrated musicians, a much-respected pianist and an inspirational teacher, who led his own trio to national and international acclaim, as well as playing with some of Ireland’s - and the world’s – leading jazz musicians, including Louis Stewart, Peter Bernstein, Perico Sambeat, Bobby Wellins, Honor Heffernan and Ian Shaw.

In June 2020, leading Dublin-based jazz pianist Phil Ware suffered a stroke which has left him severely disabled and facing a long period of rehabilitation. To help Phil recover and to support his needs into the future, a group of his closest friends, led by renowned vocalist Honor Heffernan and Phil’s half-sister Alison Cooke, established The Phil Ware Trust so that those who wanted to support Phil’s recovery could donate to an official, properly governed fund. The response to the trust has been extraordinary, raising over 50k in a few months, but more will be needed to ensure that Phil receives the treatment and support he will need for the rest of his life.

Launching the afternoon will be the outstanding Bughouse Band, led by the venerated Stan Burns who will be joined Karl Burtham on guitar, Mark Murphy on piano and Tony Travers on drums.

They will be joined by the Richard Nelson trio. Richard is the guy that everyone has heard but no one has heard of (outside of the top-tier level of Irish musicians). His credits include Van Morrison and Paul Brady, but his discography is even more impressive. Joining him is the gifted Jenny Hallahan on bass and Con Schmaucks on drums.

Next we have some of the finest musicians living and working in the North-West, the Ed, Ned, Ted and Tont Quartet. Made up of an army of Eddies, Eddie MacFarlane on guitar, Eddie Lynch on piano, Eddie Lee on bass and Ken 'Tonto' McDonald on drums.

Also taking part will be the Kobe Trio. Based in Sligo the ensemble have concocted a collection of some beautiful soundscapes, weaving their original compositions and intertwining them integraly into their solos. Featuring Mark Murphy on piano, Jaimie Carswell on bass, Con Schmaucks on drums with very special guest Cathal Roche.

And we've saved the best for last. Two of Sligo's finest jazz ensembles, Sligo Academy of Music's Young Jazz All-stars and the Senior Jazz Orchestra. Made of up of some of Sligo's youngest and most talented up and coming musicians.

This is an event not to be missed and it's for an amazing cause.

Tickets are €10pp and all proceeds go to the Fund for Phil. Tickets available at the door.
